Teaching & Coaching

Julia Marie Peterson is a multidisciplinary acting coach, director, and certified Alexander Technique teacher who works at the intersection of craft, care, and clarity. A graduate of NYU Tisch (CAP-21, Strasberg), LAMDA, and The Philadelphia School for the Alexander Technique, she brings over a decade of experience helping actors move with precision, speak with purpose, and live truthfully under imaginary circumstances.

She has coached principal cast for film, television, and theatre—supporting performers from preparation through performance—and has worked both on set and in rehearsal rooms Off-Broadway. Julia has taught at NYU (in association with the Tisch School of the Arts and the Langone Medical Center), the Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute, Denise Simon Acting & Coaching, and OnTheRoad Repertory Company (OTR). She is a company member and board member of OTR, where she has directed and produced multiple productions, continuing the artistic legacy of her mentor, Alice Spivak.

Her students have appeared on Broadway, in award-winning films, and in acclaimed television productions. Julia’s teaching blends Stanislavski, Strasberg, Uta Hagen, Michael Chekhov, Meisner, Laban, and the Alexander Technique to help actors unlock their voice, deepen their choices, and fully embody the emotional life of the role. Her coaching is grounded in attunement—helping actors arrive in the present moment with readiness, intention, and full-bodied presence.

“Julia created an amazing atmosphere during our classes that made me comfortable and allowed me to explore the craft. My expectations were exceeded. I now feel more prepared when preparing for a role, and I definitely gained breakthroughs. I used to act in a very tunnel vision way, trying to ‘believe’ instead of just being. This course helped me open up my body and mind to allow honest experiences to unfold.”

— Ari

“My expectations were FAR exceeded. I feel like a much better actress. I also got a lot of auditions and callbacks! This is the best class I’ve ever taken.”

— Rachel

“I have seen my audition tapes get better and felt my connections to characters deepen. The tools I gained in this class now help me ground myself before every audition. Julia is sincerely one of my favorite acting teachers I’ve ever had.”

— Shanti

“Without these sessions I never would’ve incorporated action into my performance. Trying new things is okay because sometimes they actually work! Julia’s constant reminder to listen made my work so much more natural.”

— Caroline

— Kennedy

“Working in this class really gives me an opening to be honest and true to myself and my characters. Even in the self tape I did yesterday, I found that my training in this class has given me the chance to massively improve.”

— Maria F.

“Julia really pushed me out of my comfort zone. The sessions made me feel more confident and helped me break down material faster. She taught me how to work a script and live in the moment.”

— Evan T.

“I feel more confident and I know more tools to decipher monologues and choose them. These sessions helped me believe in what I was acting, and that belief made the scene more alive and easier to understand.”
