About Julia

“I’m an actor of stage and screen, known for my role in the Cannes Jury Prize-winning film Bacurau, where I was named a “foreign highlight” by Brazil’s GShow. I’ve performed in over 50 theatrical productions across North America and abroad, from regional and Off-Broadway stages to immersive experimental work with Candle House Collective—whose one-audience-member experience was described by The New York Times as “laughing/crying cat emoji” inducing.

After an international tour performing the title role in Iphigenia in Taurus, I returned to New York and, with a recommendation, joined Alice Spivak’s professional scene study class—a space that quickly became a home for craft, risk, and honest work. After my first scene in class, she invited me to star in Laundry and Bourbon at The Barrow Group Theatre, marking the beginning of my work with her company, OnTheRoad Rep. I later returned to direct and produce two of Spivak’s final stage projects, presented at Abrons Arts Center and the Michael Chekhov Theatre Festival.

I trained in classical acting at LAMDA in London and hold a BFA from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, where I began at CAP21 and later moved to the Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute.

At Strasberg, I received Studio Achievement honors and continued to train for a decade with master teachers, performing in studio productions while developing my own voice as an artist and teacher. The Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute will always be an artistic home for me. My earlier training includes classical voice at Manhattan School of Music’s Precollege Division and vocal jazz at NJPAC’s Jazz For Teens, which led me to sing at NJPAC, Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and on tour in Europe before I’d even graduated high school.

Underneath all of this work is a lifelong need to understand the world through art. I’ve always been most alive in collaborative spaces—trying things, building things, and learning in real time with others. Whether it’s a scene, a song, a monologue, or a rehearsal room full of actors, I’m at home when the work is active, alive, and reaching toward something honest.

When I’m not performing or producing, I coach actors of all ages—privately and through Denise Simon Acting & Coaching—helping students build technique, trust their instincts, and connect with the material in a grounded, dynamic way. I care about process as much as product, and I’m committed to the kind of work that leaves people moved, changed, or just a little more awake.”
